\\.\Tape0 is not a vaild Microsoft Tape format backup set

hi all
I am using Sql server 2000 with sp3 on Win 2003. Recently all of my nightly
sql server backups have started failing. Here is the error message I get with
it
The file on device '\\.\Tape0' is not a vaild Microsoft Tape format backup
set. Backup Database is terminating abnormally.
I am using HP dds-4 cartridges (40 GB)
How can I fix that?
Also how do I format my tapes?

Have you tried dropping the backup device and re-creating it? Will the NT
Backup recognise this tape device?

If the NT backup does not recognise the tape, then it may not be SQL Server
that is the problem. Have you tried different tapes or re-installing the tape
drive?

[XML Task] Error: An error occurred with the following error message: There are multiple root el

I'm trying to use an XML Task to do a simple XSLT operation, but it fails with this error message:

[XML Task] Error: An error occurred with the following error message: "There are multiple root elements. Line 5, position 2.".

The source XML file validates fine and I've successfully used it as the XML Source in a data flow task to load some SQL Server tables. It has very few line breaks, so the first 5 lines are pretty long: almost 4000 characters, including 34 start-tags, 19 end-tags, and 2 empty element tags. Here's the very beginning of it:

There is only 1 ESDU root element and only 1 package element.

Of course, the XSLT stylesheet is also an XML document in its own right. I specify it directly in the XML Task:

Well of course as soon as I posted that I found an obvious bug: the xsl:stylesheet start tag should not be an empty element tag. But fixing that to:

<xsl:stylesheet version="1.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform">

leads to an even more obscure error message:

Sorry to follow up again to my own question, but when I tried to run the transformation via Saxon (the free, open-source, fully compliant XSLT processor) it helpfully reported:

Warning: Running an XSLT 1.0 stylesheet with an XSLT 2.0 processor

And changing the xsl:stylesheet start tag to:

<xsl:stylesheet version="2.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform">

did indeed allow SSIS to execute the XML task succesfully. But(!) the stylesheet did not work correctly. With Saxon, it correctly adds ihs_cats_seq attributes to each kw element, e.g.

<keywords><kw ihs_cats_seq="1">AERODYNAMICS</kw><kw ihs_cats_seq="2">AMENDMENT</kw><kw ihs_cats_seq="3">LOCATION</kw><kw ihs_cats_seq="4">ORGANISATION</kw><kw ihs_cats_seq="5">RECORD</kw><kw ihs_cats_seq="6">SCHEDULE</kw><kw ihs_cats_seq="7">SERIES</kw></keywords>

But SSIS adds ihs_cats_seq="" to each kw start-tag. Is there a known bug with the position() XPath function?

[SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 8525)

When run the Management \ Jobs , I get the Error Message [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 8525)
Please help me to explain the Error Message , thanks a lot
is it talking to SQL 7 Server via linked server as per below by any chance ?

Hi,
I have this job that runs sometimes it completes successfully, sometimes it
fails.
When it fails it gives this error message -->
Executed as user: sqlagent. Arithmetic overflow error converting expression
to data type int.
[SQLSTATE 22003] (Error 8115) The statement has been terminated. [SQLSTATE
01000] (Error 3621).
The step failed.
When I did the research on all the codes in the error looks like one of the
statements such as -->
SELECT ABS(convert(int, -2147483648))
is causing the problem. The problem I am having is that stored procedure
that runs has many 'converts' and I do not know which one is causing the
problem. Can I setup some kind of monitor that will catch exact cause or
declared 'int' that it is unable to convert to "int"?
How should I go about it?

You can run a Profiler trace, including stored procedure statement
starting/completed and exception events. Alternatively, you can run the
proc from Query Analyzer, using the debugger to step through the code

I need to do a Select and after a Insert during a Transaction. But when i want to commit this transaction i've the following error message :

The transaction can not be committed if there are any opened cursors in the scope of this transaction. Make sure all data readers / result sets are explicitly closed before committing the change.

I don't understand this error message. How can i close my cursors.

Before my Insert i'm closing my SqlCeDataReader and i dispose it. My SqlCeCommand are also closed and dispose.

Hi Kardath,

I tried to repro this here and could not reproduce the problem. I am able to have both INSERT and SELECT in a single transaction. Can you please try to dispose the all the sqlce objects and see if the problem disappers?

[SQL 2005] How do I prevent or hide this warning message?

yes you can take differential but for master you can take only full backup ..........whats in the error log ? ? ? you need to take a full backup and then subsequently differential backup

A differential backup is defined as the set of changes SINCE THE LAST FULL BACKUP.

If you've never done a full backup, there is nothing to base the differential on and it won't work.

Do a full backup of MSDB, and then your differentials should work.

If you are running SQL Server 2005 Express Edition (w/Advanced
Services), this is one of the limitations. Otherwise, you will want to
open the local SQL Server Surface Area Configuration tool and select
Surface Area Configuration for Services and Connections -> View by
Instance -> MSSQLSERVER (or the local instance name) -> Database
Engine -> Remote Connections and make sure that it is set to: Local
and remote connections. Hope this helps.

Unfortunately it doesn't work, i already have remote connections selected,
SQL server 2000 on other computer is Standard Edition and i can connect
remotely from other applications.

[MS Design Tools] - Class not registered."

On a Windows 2000 pro workstation I am using SQL 2000 enterprise
manager I am trying to return all rows, I get the error message "An
unexpected error happened during this operation. [MS Design Tools] -
Class not registered."
I have reinstalled the client tools, reinstalled service pack 3a, but I
am not having any luck. Any ideas how I can resolve this issue?

Hi,

I got the error message "[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][Named Pipes] ConnectionWrite (WrapperWrite())" from my VB6 application that connects to SQL Server 2000.

How to fix this?

after a long period of dormancy. The solution I use is to occasionally poll
the server to make sure it knows that the application is still alive. I
don't think it's a connection pooling issue. It looks like the transport
layer is being closed at the server end (in my case).

is enough to do the job.

my OS is winXP professional edition.

It is not possible to install SQL Server (the server edition) on to a =
desktop OS such as XP Pro. =20
You do have a few options if you need the DBMS installed on your =
computer (for example for development/testing). You can install the =
Personal Edition or the Developer Edition of SQL Server to your desktop =
machine.

This is your problem. The server editions (Standard and Enterprise) of =
SQL Server do not install on to desktop operating systems. If you want =
to install SQL Server onto your desktop operating system you will need =
to install the Personal Edition, the Developer Edition, or a trial =
edition.
