\\.\Tape0 is not a vaild Microsoft Tape format backup set

hi all
I am using Sql server 2000 with sp3 on Win 2003. Recently all of my nightly
sql server backups have started failing. Here is the error message I get with
it
The file on device '\\.\Tape0' is not a vaild Microsoft Tape format backup
set. Backup Database is terminating abnormally.
I am using HP dds-4 cartridges (40 GB)
How can I fix that?
Also how do I format my tapes?
regards,
AndreHi
Have you tried dropping the backup device and re-creating it? Will the NT
Backup recognise this tape device?

If the NT backup does not recognise the tape, then it may not be SQL Server
that is the problem. Have you tried different tapes or re-installing the tape
drive?

[strange] date format issue: 2 servers, one query, 2 different results.

I'm running 2 WIN2K SP4 servers with MSSQL Server (v 7.00.1077). Both NT servers seems to have the same setup. I use the ADODB object to connect to MSSQL via OLE DB and notice that the following query generates an error on one server, not the other:

SELECT DATA FROM TABLE_1 WHERE ((TRANSACTION_DATE >='13/11/2003') AND (TRANSACTIONS_DATE <='20/11/2003')) [dates are DD/MM/YYYY]

Query on server_1:
- using OLE DB: correct
- using ODBC: correct
- using Query Analyzer: error <The conversion of a char data type to a datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range datetime value>

On server_2:
- using OLE DB: error <The conversion of a char data type to a datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range datetime value>
- using ODBC: correct
- using Query Analyzer: error <The conversion of a char data type to a datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range datetime value>

Both servers have MDAC 2.8 RTM installed and a <select @.@.language> returns <us_english> via query analyzer and <franais> via ODBC.

I'd like to setup Server 2 so that queries can be executed the same as on server 1.

Any ideas are welcomed! There's a problem with 20/11/2003 in us_english format. Default is: MDY, so it's reading 20th as month, which is why you're getting that error.

Here's an article I found: http://members.lycos.nl/digispy/C2/P56/C2P56A1806.htm

G'luck!
Meera|||Possible there is something to do with locale settings of windows, check the "Region Options" in Control Panel for both servers.|||I'd say the languages are different...and accordingingly each date format is different

Di SELECT * FROM master..syslanguages

I think English is the only one that mdy|||(D/M/Y is a French date format).

I just had to set <French> to user's default language instead of <US_ENGLISH>. This means ODBC settings override the default SQL Server settings as OLE DB uses the default SQL Server setting.sql

[SQL] Format function - need help

I have this piece of SQL code coming from Access:

Format([Jobnumber2],"00000") AS [Job Number]

What is the translation in SQL server language? I can't find the equivalent of the Format function!

Otherwise, is there a way to use ASP code to format the number in the way I'd like to?

Cheers,

C

anybody knows?|||RIGHT('00000'+CAST(JobNumber2 AS varchar),5) AS [Job Number]|||Thanks very much for your help Motley!

[6.5] Server language English but date format is Dutch

I have a Sql 6.5 database-server. When I open a query window and ask for getDate() it returns Tuesday, Sep 30 2003 12:00 AM.

So far so good.

However, when I connect through an ASP page on my webserver (through ODBC) and ask for getDate, I get a Dutch format: 30-09-2003.

My Sql Server is set to default (English US)
My Database user is set to English Us
My DB server's regional settings are set to US
My ODBC is set to use English as a language
My Webserver's regional settings are set to US (d/M/y)

I'm at wit's end. I have no clue as to why I am getting Dutch dates. I know I could just convert(varchar,...) but that is not an option right now.

Thanks in advance,

KristofDoes sound like a puzzle. What are the Web Clients settngs? Don;t know why that would matter unless you are runing code on the client side, but it's the only thing you don't have listed.|||The client side is as English (US) as it gets. Regional settings are English etc.

Glad to see you're puzzled as well ... Little comfort, but comfort :)|||As a test, try changing each of the servers' settings, one at a time, to a third setting (no idea off the top of my head what this would be) to see if and when a change occurs.

This could help give you a new angle (?!).|||Solved.

Apparently, you can have multiple regional settings on a server (NT4) and NT decides which one it picks. So I forced US to be the default system locale, booted the (live *glubs*) database server and all was well.

Thanks a lot for thinking with me!
