So I have this box with SQL Server 2000, Evaluation edition of SQL 2005
which has top be installed as a named instance because of the way that 2K &
2K5 co-exist on the same box, and then there are a couple silly apps I have
that install MSDE as other named instances.
and the STUPI .NET DATA CONNECTION DIALOG doesn't have a field geared toward
named instances.
@.#$%^&
I will now crawl back under my rock.

Of course I can. It just angers me that the silly little foolish dialog
doesn't let me say so.

[SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 22029).

We have SQL Server 2000 installed on Windows 2003
machine. Get following error while doing database
maintenance
Executed as user: server\sqladmin. sqlmaint.exe failed.
[SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 22029). The step failed.
SQL Server log doesn't say anything either.
Any idea on what could be wrong? Thanks.
You need to look at the maintenance plan history or the report file for that
job to find the error.

[SQL2005] equivalent to the SQL 2000 taskpad view in Management St

Hello,
I just installed SQL 2005, and I am looking for the information about my
file usage, as I was able to see in the taskpad view with SQL 2000.
Could you help me on this please ?
Thanks in advance,
Regards,
Vincent
Hello Vincent,
There is no Taskpad in SQL Server 2005. There are Reports instead.
Go to a database and right click on it. You'll see Reports\Standard
Reports\Disk Usage.
I know this looks slower and do not have other stuff (tasks) in it, however
this is the new thing instead of Taskpad in SQL Server 2005.

There is no Reports in SQL Server Management Studio Express.
You must be using SSMSE to connect to your SQL Server instances so you can't
see Reports when you right click on your databases. You need SSMS to see
Reports menu when you right click on a database.

[S0001][unixODBC][Easysoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Login failed for user 'test1'

Hello,

I am new to SQL Server, sorry for my ignorance !!!

I have installed SQL Server 2005 Express on my desktop (Win 2000 Pro.)

I have created a new database.

I just created a new login/user (SQL Authentication) and when I try to login, it

errors out:

[S0001][unixODBC][Easysoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Login failed for user 'test1'

I believe the error is from SQL Server and not from ODBC driver.

I am also only able to connect by using my own userid (the one that I am connected to my desktop): domain\userid, and then I am only able to connect to 'master' db:

///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

/usr/local/etc>isql SQLSERVER_POS -v
++
| Connected! |
| |
| sql-statement |
| help [tablename] |
| quit |
| |
++
SQL> use pcspos
[S0001][unixODBC][Easysoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Could not locate entry in sysdatabases for database 'pcspos'. No entry found with that name. Make sure that the name is entered correctly.
[ISQL]ERROR: Could not SQLExecute
///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Hello,

While I browse the SSMSE (SQL Server Management Studion Express) , I see that the database state (from the

Database Properties Windows) is NORMAL | SHUTDOWN !!!!!!

Is this OK ?

In the meantime when I login via SSMSE, I can see all the tables and data in the database !!!!!!!!!

Thanks,

Tom

|||

Hello, I was able to change the Database State to NORMAL (I changed the 'Auto Close' option to False).

BUT I am still not able to connect:

/usr/local/etc>isql SQLSERVER_POS -v
[S0001][unixODBC][Easysoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Login failed for user 'test1'.
[ISQL]ERROR: Could not SQLConnect

|||If you are using Windows Authentication only, you cannot use SQL Server logins to connect to the server. (see how to switch the authentication mode on my website under the Screencasts). If you want to use WIndows authentication you will have to be aware that you cannot explicitly pass a user name within the connectionstring, the username is passed implicitly through Windows. If you have enabled Mixed authentication already, make sure that you are using the right password.

Hi Jens, thank you for your reply.

I am using the SQL Authentication mode, see below I am able to connect from the DOS prompt (localy),

but I can NOT connect from a Linux server by using the ODBC driver:

///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

C:\>isql -S (local)\SQLEXPRESS -U pos_sql05 -P passwd
1> select db_name()
2> go

--

--

--
POS

(1 row affected)
1> select * from pcs_lookup_active_status;
2> go
ACTIVE_STATUS_KEY ACTIVE_STATUS_DESC
-- --
1 Active
2 Inactive
3 Deleted

(3 rows affected)

///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

|||I don′t know how the tool for Linux works but if you do not pass a username using SQL Server authentication there has to be somewhere a setting file where these information is stored.
|||

I am using a config file by the name odbc.ini.

It looks like the following:

/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

[SQLSERVER_POS]
Driver = /usr/local/easysoft/sqlserver/lib/libessqlsrv.so
Description = Easysoft SQL Server ODBC driver (unixODBC 2.2.12)
Server = 10.20.30.40\SQLEXPRESS
Port = 1433
Database = POS
User = pos_sql05
Password = passwd
Mars_Connection = No
Logging = 31
LogFile = /tmp/sqlserver.log
QuotedId = Yes
AnsiNPW = Yes
Language =
Version7 = No
ClientLB = No
Failover_Partner =
VarMaxAsLong = No

//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

As you cann tell, the user id and password are there.

Thanks again.

Regards,

Tom

|||

Make sure that you are using the right password for the mentioned user. In addition make sure taht the user is priviledged for the POS database, cause authentication or the connection will also fail if the initial database is not one of the allowed ones. if you are not sure, try to connect to the master database. A user which is granted access to the server should have access to the master database.

Jens K. Suessmeyer.

http://www.sqlserver2005.de

|||

Hi Jens, thanks again.

The userid and password are correct (I am able to connect via isql from the DOS prompt).

I think the problem relies on the fact that I am coming remotetly (from a Linux server), BUT I have

enabled the TCP/IP protocol connection properties. What else can I look for ?

Thank you.

Tom

|||

How are you authenticating? Is your server set to authenticate using Windows authentication only or integrated authentication? Perhaps this unix driver is trying to use SQL authentication and your SQL installation only accepts windows authenticated connections. That would explain this problem.

Hope this helps!

John (MSFT)

|||

Hi John & Jens, the issue has been resolved. I contacted the ODBC driver's vendor and they provided me with an updated copy of it.

Thank you for your help and suggestions.

Keep up the GREAT job.

Best regards,

Tom

[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Invalid object name

I have a ms sqlserver 2000 database installed on my Windows NT4 PC.

I want to access this database from a java program using JDBC - ODBC

Here are the relavent lines of code from my java source code file.

Note : I am attempting to access the sample database "Northwind Traders" that came with the installation.

Class.forName("sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver").newInstance();
datasource = "NORTHDS";
url = "jdbc:odbc:" + datasource;
con = DriverManager.getConnection(url,username,password) ;
query = "SELECT * from " + datasource + "." + username + "." + tablename;
ResultSet rs = stmt.executeQuery(query);

The connection succeeds but the query fails with :
java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL
Server]Invalid object name 'NORTHDS.username.Customers'.

Using the program "Microsoft Access" I was able to verify that the "Customers" table is intact.

Any ideas ?Take a look at the following:

In your select statement there are a couple of potential problems that you need to verify.

select * from datasource.username.table ... which is returning 'NORTHDS.username.Customers'

should be

select * from Northwind.dbo.Customers ... (unless you renamed the database ...)

In other words, check to make sure your are referencing the correct database/owner/table in your select statement. It appears that the variables you are using are incorrect. tablename appears to be ok, but the username variable is returning username. Also, the datasource variable may not be your database name.

[DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen(Connect()).] SQL Server does not exist or access denied

ok im a CS student, installed visual studio .net, and im trying to connect to a ms sql database (Northwind), but I keep getting a error that "[DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen(Connect()).] SQLServer does not exist or access denied" in visual studio whenever I try creating a new database connection. How do I know if SQL server is installed on my system? cuz in my systray I see SQL server service manager, is that the same thing as SQL server? or do I need to download the full version or something? also could it be that a certain port on my system is not open that SQL server requires to be open?

Thanks

Ron

The tray icon doesn't mean SQL is running, so use the tray icon to start SQL if it isn't. I do not know if SQL Express uses a tray icon, so i would assume you are using MSDE 2000. You might need to grant the user ASPNET access to the database.

SQL uses Port 1433. DTE services use ports 5000-5020, however I don't think you are using DTE.

I installed the SQL SERVER , Oracleclient on my computer, and I can connect to remote SQL server,oracle databases using wizards , however when I try to run application iam getting this error.

What is your sql connection string in your web application?

string strCon="Provider=SQLOLEDB.1;User ID=sa;Initial Catalog=Anjali;Data Source=MIPL0121;Persist Security Info=False"; //my connection string

and it is existing i am able to see the data through microsoft sql server --> enterprise manager

and i am able to get the data for my windows applications but not for web application why?

You would have to use:

String strCon = "Server=MIPL0121;Database=Anjali;User ID=myuser;password=mypassword;"

still problem is like that only

i think problem with some other one not with connection string

my problem is exact as this

|||

Hi,

This is definately a security issue. In you connection string, you're using the Windows integrated authentication to connection to the server.

You can do this in the VS.NET because it is using your windows identity(Running under your account). However, the ASP.NET app is running under the ASPNET account, which doesn't have that previlege.

To resolve this, you can either give the ASPNET account proper permission to access the database, or use other accounts for accessing the database.

|||but i am able to get the data from remote server using same connection string in vs2005 but not in 2003 why?|||at the same time i am not able to get the data from ORACLE also and the connection string and code is perfectly executing on my neighbor system.|||at the same time i am not able to get the data from ORACLE also andthe connection string and code is perfectly executing on my neighborsystem with the same setting|||

Hi,

I'd like to know if you're connecting from VS.NET IDE using this connection string. Or you're using this connection string in your ASP.NET application.

Because in different scenarios, it holds different user credentials. Also, please check if you have used the correct OleDb driver to do the connection to SQL Server.

ya i am using this connection string in asp.net application

but i tryied by using vs.net IDE(using Wizards) also its givng the same error when i am connecting throw wizards it is connecting and showing the database contents(mean if a select a tabe it

showing the discription of that table ) but when i am running the application it giving the above error

After much research, the setting in the registry was somehow truncated (the DependsOn Service was truncated to MSSQL$SHAREPOINT to MSSQL$SHA) - no idea how THAT happened.
At any rate, while I've corrected the above, any attempt to start SQLAgent (even on the command line) simply returns "SQLAgent is not allowed to run". Only error message I can see is "StartServiceCtrlDispatcher failed (error 6)".
NO info anywhere so far on this type of problem; NOTE: Recently applied the Security patch however, I am skeptical about that being the problem as all other Databases are working fine.

[?] Error accessing from internet

I've installed Reporting Services and customized the authentication ( Forms
Authentication Sample ) with SSL.
Everything works fine in intranet environment.
Now I'm trying to publish this server in internet, but it doesn't work:
when I call the server url I can see the login form, but when I press the
"Login" button nothing happens.
I debugged the application and see the request coming in correctly, the
login credentials are authenticated but the redirect to the
"/Pages/Folder.aspx" is wrong.
It seems like the report manager and the report server can't communicate
each other when accessed from internet.
May the SSL certificate be released on Netbios name but the internet access
is something like www.myserver.com ?
Thanks for responses.
MorenoI had a similar problem. What I did was add a entry into my host file
on the server. Make sure your internal ip for the server matches your
domain name. Hope this helps.
Example:
10.0.0.1 yourssldomain.com

@@version, add database to a named instance?

@@Version still shows Service Pack 1

We just installed the service pack 2 to our server, so I did a select @.@.version but it's still say Service Pack 1, even though the version number is now 3054. Is that a bug in the service pack?

Thanks.

Can you post the entire string returned by SELECT @.@.VERSION? My guess is that you are seeing the Windows OS Service Pack that is also included in the @.@.VERSION call. SQL Server should return SP2.

Thanks,

Yeah, the SP1 in this case refers to your Windows Version:

Windows NT 5.2 (Build 3790: Service Pack 1)

The Service Pack level apparently isn't listed in the @.@.VERSION as I thought it was. Build 3054 is definitely SP2, but you can also check Add/Remove Programs report or the setup regitry hives to confirm.

@@Version not updating

Greetings,
I recently installed Service Pack 4 on SQL 2000. The install went
smooth with no errors and a message at the end stating the install

tried to check the @.@.Version global variable but it still lists only
Service Pack 1.
Could it be that SP4 didn't install? Or is it more likely something
else is preventing the @.@.Version from updating?

Looks like @.@.version does not show the SQL Server service pack number but a
version number. Check for a number like 8.00.2039. Probably the service pack
listed is for the operating system.
